Completed in 1911, the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort golf course is the first-ever design by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast. The course features 27 holes of championship golf set on a scenic island in the Delaware River. The three nines—the Red, White, and Blue—provide different 18-hole combinations, with 24 of the 27 championship holes located on an island in the middle of the Delaware River. Unlike other courses in the Poconos, the classically designed course is relatively flat, and features strategically placed bunkers and thick patches of rough, with stunning views of the nearby Pocono Mountains on almost every hole.

Shawnee has hosted the 1938 PGA Championship and the 1967 NCAA Championship. The 1938 PGA Championship saw Paul Runyon defeat Sam Snead 8 and 7, while the 1967 NCAA championship featured Hale Irwin as the individual medalist and the University of Houston winning the team title. The White nine was added in 1968, designed by architect Bill Diddel. Tee Time magazine ranked the golf course as one of the finest in the Mid-Atlantic region.
