Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course carved through the winding woods, fields, ponds and streams of an original Charleston plantation. Designed by Russell Breeden and opened in 1970, the semi-private course features lush Bermuda fairways and dense oak and hickory forests, presenting a challenge for accomplished golfers while remaining playable for those of all skill levels.
At 6,701 yards from the back tees, the course is not exceptionally long, but dense tree growth along the perimeters forces accurate play. The course features Champions hybrid Bermuda greens installed in 2003 that rival the area's resort and private courses for smoothness and consistency. The par-4 finishing hole doglegs sharply around a lake.
Shadowmoss is the only course in the Charleston area to be selected to host the South Carolina State Open. Located just 12 miles from downtown and 5 miles from I-526, the course is convenient to Kiawah Island and easily accessible from anywhere in the Charleston area. Shadowmoss is especially popular with locals and receives enough tourist play to average 48,500 rounds per year.
