Shadow Ridge Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course featuring 7,006 yards at par-71, located in Palm Desert in the Coachella Valley of Southern California. The course was designed by Nick Faldo, the renowned six-time major champion, in collaboration with Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley. This was Faldo's first American golf course design when it opened in 2000. The layout is set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Santa Rosa Mountains and is part of the Marriott Shadow Ridge Resort.
The course is characterized by generous fairways framed by distinctive bold bunkering and tall native fescue grasses, with ten of the eighteen holes being doglegs. Faldo's design draws inspiration from the sand-belt courses of Australia, particularly Kingston Heath and Royal Melbourne. The greens feature subtle undulations that encourage varied approach shots, while the bunkers are strategically placed and notably deep. Notable finishing holes include the par-3 17th hole requiring a carry over water and the par-4 18th featuring a rock-lined creek.
Shadow Ridge has earned multiple accolades including rankings on Golfweek Magazine's Top 200 Resort Courses, appearances on best Palm Springs course lists, and recognition as a top public course in California. The course presents considerable challenge with a course rating of 73.9 and slope rating of 131, particularly on the front nine, while offering more playable opportunities on the back nine.
