Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club, founded in 1903, is an 18-hole championship course designed by the renowned Dr Alister MacKenzie, who also designed Cypress Point, Augusta National, and Royal Melbourne. Located on the Yorkshire coast at Deepdale Avenue, the course offers spectacular open views across South Cliff to the sea, with particularly notable coastal holes. The fifth hole is highlighted as a signature feature, providing breathtaking vistas over Scarborough South Bay and down the east coast.
The course is considered one of the finest in the North of England, with well-maintained fairways and true greens presented in excellent condition. The terrain incorporates the natural landscape of the coastal setting, creating a fair but challenging test of golf. South Cliff regularly hosts significant tournaments, including regional, county, and national events, and served as joint host of the English Amateur Championship in 2016. The club combines its excellent course design with comprehensive facilities, making it a notable destination on the Yorkshire golf circuit.
