Sawmill Woods Golf Course is a 9-hole course featuring 2,874 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. Designed by Harearl Moore, the course opened in 2004. The course is located in Clifton, Maine in Penobscot County, less than 30 minutes from Ellsworth, Bangor or Orono.
The course was designed to follow the contours of the land and is carved from the Maine forest, with golfers surrounded by trees, and featuring large, undulating greens and tight fairways. The course has a slope rating of 124, presenting a moderate challenge. The course offers 4 tees per hole, making it accessible to golfers of varying abilities.
The course builders made good use of Maine's abundant rocks, constructing numerous walls in the old English tradition, and the par-36 course features terraced and sloping fairways with large undulating greens. Notable among the course's features are holes 7, 8, and 9, which are particularly scenic and challenging, and the sixth hole is recognized as especially picturesque.
