The Salto Golf Club is located in Salto, Uruguay, with its course situated along Ruta 3 at kilometer 482.5. The facility was originally designed in October 1997 by Juan Albini and Gregorio Portela and opened in April 1998 as a nine-hole course. The club, which operates as a non-profit sports entity, initially struggled with the quality of its playing surface but gained traction among local enthusiasts. A significant setback occurred when the club lost usage rights to a large portion of its land, reducing the playable area to just four holes, including three par 4s and one par 5. This reduction hindered the club's ability to join the Asociación Uruguaya de Golf (AUG) and led to a period of relative quiet. The course remained in good condition through the dedication of a small group of loyal members who maintained the grounds despite the limited layout. The modern era of the club began following a visit from AUG authorities in July 2021, who indicated that formal integration was possible if the club obtained legal personhood and expanded its course to at least six holes. In September 2021, Pablo Faget and Federico Armas provided a redesign proposal for a six-hole layout, which the club executed shortly after. The redesigned course was calibrated by Argentine expert Roberto Robles in late November 2021, with greens and improvements ready for normal play by March 2022. The club officially joined the AUG on November 8, 2022, after meeting all verification requirements. While the physical course currently consists of six holes, the club now operates with an official 18-hole handicap system, allowing members to play under standard regulations and host official tournaments. The facility continues to serve as a social and sporting hub for golfers in the Salto region.
