Situated in Boischatel, just outside Quebec City, the Royal Québec Golf Club is a semi-private facility established in 1874. The club occupies a 120-acre site near the Montmorency Falls, characterized by mature coniferous trees and a classic country club atmosphere. The property features two distinct 18-hole courses, offering a total of 36 holes for play. The Royal Course, the club's original layout, was designed by the renowned Scottish architect Willie Park Jr. and opened in 1925. It measures 6,789 yards from the back tees and is set up with a par of 72. The course features a mix of par-4s, par-3s, and par-5s, including a challenging par-3 13th hole. The layout is known for its classic design and has hosted prestigious competitions, including the Duc de Kent Cup. Significant renovations over the decades have included extensive drainage work, the installation of a full irrigation system, and the reconstruction of several greens. The Quebec Course was added later to accommodate the club's growing membership. Designed by Canadian architect Howard Watson, the first nine holes opened in 1959, with the back nine completed in 1968. This course measures 6,643 yards and also plays to a par of 72. It is described as offering a more dynamic and varied experience compared to the Royal Course, with narrow fairways that present a high degree of difficulty. The 18th hole on the Quebec Course is a notable feature, offering a view of the main clubhouse from the green. The club has a rich tournament history, having hosted the Canadian Professional Championship in 1953 and the Labatt Open in 1956, which attracted top professionals such as Arnold Palmer. It also hosted the Internationaux Labatt in 1983, won by Lee Trevino. The Royal Québec Golf Club holds the distinction of being the oldest golf club in Canada still operating on its original site, having received its "Royal" prefix from King George V in 1934.
