Royal Canberra Golf Club is a championship course located in Canberra, Australia, featuring three distinct layouts: the Westbourne Course (holes 1-18), Yarralumla Course (holes 10-27), and Brindabella Course (holes 19-9). Each course plays to par 72 with varying slope ratings and scoring records across multiple tee options.
The Westbourne Course was designed by Commander John Harris in 1962 and underwent redesign by OCM in 2016, while the Brindabella Course was created by Thomson, Wolveridge and Perrett in 1997. The courses are characterized by strategic design principles that reward precise shot-making and strategic positioning.
Notable features include the signature par-4 16th hole, played over dramatically undulating terrain with valley crossings and strategic bunkering. The 14th hole presents the most dramatic visual challenge with water hazards requiring thoughtful play. The 8th hole, a short downhill par 3, offers Telstra Tower as its backdrop. The course incorporates natural features including creeks, elevation changes, and mature tree lines that define multiple doglegs throughout the layout. Described as "the most beautiful course in Australia" by Gary Player, Royal Canberra represents excellent examples of both classic and modern golf course design.
