Fairways is a unique, par 66, 18-hole course designed by Perry Maxwell ASGCA, and open since 1929. The course plays to 4,677 yards with a course rating of 63.5 and slope of 109. The layout is a classic parkland design over generally level terrain that is easily walkable, with fairways following narrow, mature, hardwood-lined corridors leading to small, raised greens with 24 sand bunkers, mostly on the greens' sides.

The front nine is a par 36 with back-to-back par 5s on the seventh and eighth holes, while the back nine is a par 30 and ends with two par 3s, featuring six par 3s total on the back. A creek runs through three holes on the north side and a pond is in play on a couple of holes. The fairways are generally tight and lined by mature trees with some bunkers in the fairways and protecting the challenging greens, with the course testing golfers' accuracy as well as short game.

The course features serene tree-lined fairways ideal for golfers of any skill level and an average round time of three and a half hours. Located in Rochelle, Illinois, approximately 80 miles west of Chicago, the course is open to the public and offers practice facilities including a short-game area and practice putting green.
