The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals consists of two 18-hole championship courses situated on elevated terrain above Wilson Lake on the Tennessee River in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The Fighting Joe course, which opened in 2004, measures 8,092 yards from the championship tees and was recognized by Travel + Leisure Golf as one of the top new courses that year. It features wide fairways bordered by dune-like mounds and tall grasses, with large bent grass greens. The Schoolmaster, opened in 2005 and named after President Woodrow Wilson, presents a more demanding layout with tree-lined fairways, narrower corridors, and well-protected greens, also stretching nearly 8,000 yards. Both courses require precision shot-making, with Fighting Joe suited to long-hitters and Schoolmaster demanding strategic play. Notable features include the 18th hole's high bluff views over the river and a waterfall guarding the 2nd green on Schoolmaster. The Couples Championship is held annually in September at The Shoals.
