River Oaks Golf Plantation, designed by Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson, is located in central Myrtle Beach on more than 800 acres along the Intracoastal Waterway. The course is situated on a former nature preserve and boasts a reputation as a fun course designed for players of all skill levels, with 27 thoughtfully designed holes. The three nines are named for animals found in their natural habitats when the course was developed – Fox, Otter, and Bear. The par is 72 with a length of 6,791 yards.

The three golf courses feature narrow fairways that are tree lined, and small greens that are well bunkered. The signature hole on the Otter golf course is hole 9, a 521-yard par 5, which is well bunkered and has water coming into play down the right side of its fairway. The Bear golf course's signature hole is hole 4, a 165-yard par 3, requiring a tee shot to a peninsula green. The course opened in 1987 and received extensive renovations beginning in 2007 and extending into 2010 as over 4,000 trees were removed to improve growing conditions. The Bear and Fox course at River Oaks was listed among Golf Digest's Best Places to Play in 2008–2009.
