Presidio Golf Course is an 18-hole public course located in San Francisco's Presidio National Park, situated on 149.6 acres within a forested setting featuring eucalyptus and Monterey pine trees. Originally designed by Robert Wood Johnstone in 1895 as a nine-hole course, it was expanded to 18 holes in 1910 and redesigned by the British firm Fowler & Simpson in 1921. The course is built on varied terrain with holes constructed over adobe clay, rock, sand, or combinations thereof, creating challenging natural obstacles.

Known for its difficulty, the course demands accuracy and strategic shot-making, particularly around its numerous trees and in challenging weather conditions including wind, fog, and rain. The course has hosted notable players including Babe Ruth, Bob Hope, and Joe DiMaggio. As a contributing feature to the Presidio's National Historic Landmark status, the course is recognized for its environmentally sensitive management practices, winning the 2001 Environmental Leader in Golf Award and reducing pesticide use by approximately 50% since 2000. The course utilizes innovative compost tea pest management techniques and holds Audubon International certification.
