The Prairie Hills Golf Course first opened for play in 1982 when the first nine holes were completed, with the back nine opening in 1996. The course is an 18-hole, par-71 layout measuring 6,277 yards with a slope rating of 116 and a course rating of 70.1, designed by John & Mike Weber. Located just north of Kearney, it is a Scottish links style course.

The course features large, well-cared-for greens and lush fairways, with rough consisting of foot-high prairie grass and wildflowers, and ponds and bunkers found on several holes. The tenth hole is notable as one of the toughest holes, featuring an uphill tee shot over a marsh area to a narrow fairway lined with Nebraska gorse. The back nine plays tighter and requires good shotmaking skills, with water coming into play a few times on the front nine but not on the back nine.

The course came under new ownership in Fall 2001 and underwent many improvements, including a brand new clubhouse. The facility now operates as a semi-private course offering membership and daily play options for golfers of varying skill levels.
