Prairie Dunes Country Club, located in Hutchinson, Kansas, is a links-style course founded in 1937 by salt magnate Emerson Carey and designed by renowned architect Perry Maxwell. The course originally opened with 9 holes and was completed to 18 holes in 1957 by Press Maxwell, who leveraged the natural sand dunes and native prairie grass to enhance its difficulty and character.
Set in the heart of the American plains, Prairie Dunes features rolling terrain reminiscent of Scottish seaside links courses, creating a distinctive landscape unusual for central Kansas. The course design takes advantage of the natural topography, with native desert prairie grass adding strategic challenge throughout.
Prairie Dunes has established itself as a premier championship venue, hosting USGA tournaments and the NCAA Division 1 Men's Golf Championship. The course has achieved consistent rankings among the top courses in the United States, North America, and worldwide, making it a highly sought-after destination for golfers globally. Beyond golf, the club offers comprehensive amenities including multiple dining facilities, tennis and pickleball courts, fitness center, pool, and lodging accommodations.
