Poplar Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course located in San Mateo, California at Coyote Point Drive. Originally established in 1933 as the San Mateo Municipal Golf Course to provide employment during the Great Depression, the course underwent complete renovation and reopened in July 2000 under its current name, inspired by the poplar trees and creek that traverse the property.
Designed by Steve Halsey, the course features a par rating of 70.2 with a slope of 115, offering moderate difficulty. The course has become one of Northern California's most popular facilities, averaging over 75,000 rounds annually.
Poplar Creek hosts significant regional competitions, including the Robert O'Brien Junior Championship and the San Mateo County Championship. Notable past tournament winners include former PGA Tour professional Johnny Miller. The course maintains championship-level standards with a soft spikes only dress code policy.
