Ponderosa Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course established in 1965 by Herbert Heinlein on 250 acres near Hookstown, Pennsylvania. The family-owned and operated facility was named after the Bonanza television series, reflecting the Heinlein family's connection to the show's Ponderosa Ranch theme.

Originally developed as an average 18-hole course with a snack bar, Ponderosa evolved into a championship-caliber facility through extensive turf management and landscaping improvements. The course now features a full restaurant and banquet facility alongside the golf operations, representing significant facility expansion and enhancement over its decades of operation.

The course has been instrumental in establishing itself as a quality golfing destination, with particular emphasis placed on course conditioning and playability. Currently managed by the Heinlein family, including Mike's successors and extended family members, the facility continues to maintain the standards and quality that have defined Ponderosa Golf Course as a notable regional venue.
