Penn National Golf Club & Inn is a 36-hole golf resort located 20 miles west of Gettysburg, PA with two Golf Digest award-winning courses. The Founders Course was designed by Edmund Ault in 1966 as a classic Northeastern-style masterpiece with large contoured greens and tree-lined fairways, opening in 1968 and updated in 2006 with an extensive bunker and tee renovation. The 6,972-yard Founders Course features forested terrain, while the 7,009-yard Iron Forge Course was built in 1997 with very few trees. Iron Forge was designed by architect Bill Love.
The facility resides in the bucolic central Pennsylvania countryside in the heart of Amish country. Golf Digest rates the Founders Course 4-Stars, with Zagat rating it 27 points. Ault saves the best and toughest for the 5-hole stretch starting at the par-5 14th. The course offers thick rough, challenging bunker locations, undulating greens, and elevation changes. Iron Forge is visually stunning with 30-mile views, starting near Michaux State Forest in the foothills of South Mountain and making a single loop home through varied terrain. In contrast to the Founders Course, Iron Forge is nearly treeless, allowing golfers to grip it and rip it from the tee while premium placement is required for shots to the green and putting.
The facility has experience running professional events for over 30 years. The Inn features a manor house and six modern lodge buildings housing 52 guest rooms located off the 8th fairway. Adjacent to the resort are Michaux State Forest and Caledonia State Park, which provide hiking, biking, kayaking and outdoor adventures.
