Pelham Bay is one of the nation's earliest public golf courses, with its roots tracing back to 1901, while the Split Rock course and iconic clubhouse were built as part of a significant Works Progress Administration project during the Great Depression. Both courses were redesigned by notable architect John Van Kleek. The property serves as the site of the Battle of Pell's Point from the American Revolutionary War. The facility hosts prominent events like the World Police and Fire Games and the NYC Mayor's Cup.
