Old Lake Golf Club is located in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and features a distinctive 18-hole layout designed by Shigefumi Shimamura, a student of the late Makoto Inoue. The course is divided into two distinct nine-hole sections: the Old Course and the Lake Course. The Old Course, which plays as the front nine, is characterized as a wooded, forest-style layout that follows along a stream. The back nine, known as the Lake Course, is defined by water features, with ponds strategically placed throughout the fairways and greenside areas. The Old Course presents a strategic challenge with its classic undulations and hidden hazards. The front nine includes several demanding par-5s, such as the 530-yard 3rd hole, which requires a precise tee shot to avoid bamboo thickets and a creek, and the 524-yard 5th hole, which features a two-tiered fairway and a water hazard guarding the second shot. The 4th hole is a challenging par-3 requiring a carry over a water hazard, while the 9th hole is a long par-5 that also demands a tee shot over water, with out-of-bounds protecting the green. The Lake Course, playing as the back nine, offers a mix of downhill shots and water-carried holes. The 15th hole is a scenic 523-yard par-5 that plays downhill, offering views of the Nagoya city skyline on clear days, though a pond on the right side demands caution. The 16th hole is a left dogleg par-4 requiring a creek carry, while the 17th is a short but tricky par-3 surrounded by water on both greens. The 18th hole finishes as a right dogleg par-4 where an accurate tee shot is essential to set up a manageable approach. The course features multiple tee boxes for each hole, including Back, Regular, and Ladies tees, allowing for varied yardages. The Old Course tees range from 3,345 yards from the Back tees to 2,500 yards from the Ladies tees. The Lake Course ranges from 3,262 yards from the Back tees to 2,367 yards from the Ladies tees. The design emphasizes strategic shot-making, with out-of-bounds areas, water hazards, and undulating greens requiring precision and course management.
