Nyeri Golf Club, located in Nyeri, Kenya, is an 18-hole, par 72 course set across more than 100 acres of mountainous terrain. Established in 1910 by Reggie McClure and G.S. Sandbach Baker, it is recognized as the second oldest golf course in Kenya, with the initial nine holes laid out in its founding year. The course is designed to challenge golfers through its difficult mountainous layout, featuring well-protected greens, deep roughs, and tall evergreens that line the fairways. Natural hazards such as a flowing stream and a scenic valley add to the difficulty, requiring precision and strategy from players of all levels. The setting offers exquisite scenery, with Mount Kenya visible from the sixth tee, a hole famously referred to as the "Kerio Valley of Nyeri Club." This vantage point provides a panoramic view that defines the visual character of the round. The terrain’s elevation changes and natural features create a distinct playing environment that tests every shot, from the drive off the tee to the approach on the greens. The course is maintained to provide a challenging experience, with the deep rough and tall vegetation ensuring that accuracy is rewarded. Nyeri Club hosts over 30 tournaments and event days each year, maintaining an active competitive calendar. Recent events have included the NCBA Golf Series and the Lady Captain’s Prize Tournament, as well as historic interclub matchplay competitions against other leading Kenyan clubs such as the Royal Nairobi Golf Club. The club supports its golfing community with 10 professional instructors available for players at all skill levels, a warm-up practice tee, and a fully stocked golf shop. With more than 1,000 active members, the club continues to serve as a central hub for golf in the region, blending its historical legacy with modern facilities and a robust tournament schedule.
