Eswatini
Nkonyeni Residential Golf Estate is located in the Kingdom of Eswatini, situated within a private game reserve in the heart of the bushveld. The estate features a 27-hole facility that offers four distinct course combinations: the Bushveld Course, the Enroute57 Course, the Links & Bush Course, and the Sunshine Course. The original 18-hole Bushveld Course was designed by Phil Jacobs, a designer previously associated with the Gary Player Group who has also worked on notable courses such as Leopard Creek and The Lost City. The construction of this course was handled by Robert Richardson from Tee to Green Projects. The estate’s second offering, the Golden Eagle Links, was designed by Louis Oosthuizen in partnership with Peter Matkovich of the Matkovich Group. This layout represents Matkovich’s first design in Africa and was inspired by Oosthuizen’s affinity for the links style of St Andrews. The design emphasizes creativity and shot-making variety, allowing for multiple playing experiences across the 27 holes. The clubhouse is positioned between the two courses, overlooking the Usuthu River, and serves as the central hub for the facility. A defining characteristic of the Nkonyeni layout is the 18th hole of the Bushveld Course, which presents a unique challenge by requiring a shot across the Usuthu River onto an island surrounded by rocks. This feature provides a distinct experience for players navigating the meandering terrain of the reserve. The facility caters to various skill levels, with the Golden Eagle Links specifically noted for bringing a links-style challenge that offers variables in shot-making for all levels of golf.
