Miyagi Country Club is a 27-hole facility located in Yagaya-machi, Oshita District, Miyagi Prefecture, set on elevated hilly terrain with views of Mount Funagata, Mount Kinkazan, and Matsushima. The course opened in 1970 and is divided into three nine-hole courses named Funagata, Kinkazan, and Matsushima, each playing to a par of 36 for a total course par of 54. The layout utilizes the natural undulations of the landscape, with gentle slopes incorporated throughout the design to create strategic challenges that require careful club selection. The terrain varies across the property, with some holes featuring pine tree separations and others opening up to expansive views reminiscent of former pastureland. The elevated position of the course provides sweeping vistas from multiple holes, and the design takes advantage of the natural contours to create a variety of playing conditions. The Funagata course includes downhill doglegs and uphill shots, while the Kinkazan and Matsushima courses offer their own distinct character with a mix of elevation changes and strategic demands. Difficulty is managed through a combination of hazards and strategic positioning. Out-of-bounds areas guard several holes, particularly on the Funagata and Matsushima courses, while water hazards appear on select holes such as the second on Funagata. The seventh hole on the Kinkazan course, known as "Apache," is recognized as a particularly challenging mid-length hole with a downhill tee shot alongside a penalty area, requiring a demanding uphill second shot. Fairway bunkers and drop slopes further test players on various holes throughout the property. The course allows full fairway access with golf carts, a feature noted as rare within Miyagi Prefecture, and accommodates both cart play and self-play formats. The club's 14-bay driving range and clubhouse facilities support the playing experience, while the varied hole designs ensure that strategy and course management remain central to scoring.
