Merrist Wood Golf Club, founded in 1993, offers an 18-hole, par 72 championship course set in the tranquil Surrey countryside. Laid out over 250 acres and measuring nearly 7,000 yards off the blue tees, Merrist Wood is a long and brilliantly designed parkland course, where every hole presents a different challenge. The course opened in 1997 and was designed by David Williams. The high quality greens are constructed and maintained to USGA specification.
With water on five holes and some 80 bunkers, you need to keep your wits about you and be accurate off the tee, so it's not all about big hitting. The signature 7th hole features a picturesque island green, adding a unique challenge. The par 5 6th will tempt the big hitters, at 549 yards off the white tees, but this is a hole you need to plot your way through. With a lake on the left and bunkers down the right, you can't afford to be wayward off the tee. Your second shot has to carry a row of three bunkers and then there are further bunkers protecting the green front left. Accuracy is key and once you make it to the green, the undulating contours present their own challenge.
The golf club is located just outside Guildford in tranquil countryside but is 10 minutes from the A3, meaning its convenient for London and the M25. Merrist Wood is full of spectacle and challenge, and is a Silver Award winner in the HSBC Regional Course Guide.
