The Mere Golf Resort features an 18-hole, 6,882-yard, par-71 championship course designed by the legendary James Braid, nestled within 150 acres of lush Cheshire parkland. The course was created in 1934. The surrounding mature trees, rhododendron bushes and lakeside setting add considerable charm, while water, ravines and thick vegetation have been incorporated into the layout so that care and accuracy are demanded both off the tees and on the greens.
The James Braid designed golf course is undoubtedly one of the best prepared and well-conditioned golf courses in the North of England. The 4th hole was changed on Braid's advice in 1949 to fashion a new doglegged hole, the par-three 14th line was altered slightly, and Nick Faldo constructed a new green on the closing hole. Harry Weetman won the 1952 British Masters here by four strokes. Practice facilities include a driving range and putting green, with a clubhouse featuring a pro shop, fine dining options, and a welcoming atmosphere.
