The Mason City Country Club, now operating as Legacy Golf Course at the 19, is an 18-hole championship course with a par of 72 and a length of 6,442 yards. Originally established in 1915 and designed by renowned Scottish architect Tom Bendelow, the course is located in Mason City, Iowa at 3331 19th Street SW. Bendelow's design features moderately sloped greens, bunkers positioned close to greens, and short distances between greens and tees, creating an efficient layout designed for faster play.
The course presents a moderate challenge characterized by fast greens, smooth fairways, and tree-lined holes that provide visual definition and strategic interest. In 2023, after ownership changed in 2022, the course underwent significant renovations overseen by architect Kevin Norby and PGA Champion John Daly. Notable improvements included new greens on holes 1, 2, and 10, as well as a complete redesign of hole 11 featuring a water hazard. Additional enhancements included fairway realignment throughout the course and installation of a modern irrigation system.
The course holds substantial tournament history, hosting over 20 Iowa Golf Association tournaments—more than any other course within a 75-mile radius. This recognition demonstrates its standing as a significant venue for competitive golf in the region. The facility operates as a semi-private club with non-member play available on select days, and features practice amenities including a driving range, chipping area, and three practice greens.
