Mallard Head Country Club is an 18-hole, 174-acre course originally designed by George W. Cobb, who also designed the par-3 course at Augusta National. Located on the shores of Lake Norman in southern Iredell County in Mooresville, North Carolina, the course first opened for play in 1979. The course features 6,904 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.
The layout incorporates trees and water hazards that come into play several times, with the signature hole being #7, a 208-yard par 3 requiring a tee shot to a green with a pond guarding the front. The longest hole is #6, a par-5 playing to 577 yards, while #1 is a 400-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The course rating is 72.8 with a slope rating of 121 on Bermuda grass. The design offers a challenging but playable experience for golfers of varying skill levels.
