The facility opened in November 1989 and sits on a sprawling 400,000-tsubo site. The course layout features a total par of 72, with a total yardage of 6,811 yards from the black tees. The design is characterized by gentle curves and minimal elevation changes, relying instead on a variety of bunkers and water hazards to create strategic challenges for golfers. The course is divided into an out and in nine, with the front nine measuring 3,374 yards from the black tees and the back nine measuring 3,437 yards. The par breakdown includes four par-5s, ten par-4s, and four par-3s. The longest holes are the 4th and 11th, both playing 539 yards and 537 yards respectively from the black tees. The shortest par-3s are the 14th at 153 yards and the 17th at 195 yards from the black tees. The course carries a rating of 72.8 and a slope rating of 134 from the black tees. Kobayashi’s design philosophy at Maibara emphasizes a harmony between nature and sportsmanship, incorporating water features that serve as the primary defensive element. The course requires players to navigate these water hazards and bunkers strategically, as the relatively flat terrain means that accuracy and course management are critical. The layout is intended to test a player's ability to adapt to the specific demands of each hole, which are designed to offer different strategic options depending on the tee shot and wind conditions. Maibara Golf Club is affiliated with the Japan Golf Association, the Korea Golf Association, and the China Golf Association. The facility offers a 20-bay driving range and provides various amenities including a restaurant, hotel accommodation, and a pro shop. The course is part of a network of group golf clubs that includes Sendai Airport Country Club and Wakasa Country Club.
