Mahogany Run Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-70 championship course measuring 6,000 yards, designed by renowned architects George and Tom Fazio and opened in 1980. Located on the northern side of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands near Magen's Bay, the course is carved from challenging terrain featuring tight, winding fairways set within approximately 110 acres of lush tropical landscape surrounded by dense rainforest. The course requires precision play over distance, with an emphasis on accuracy given its compact design and numerous doglegs.
The course is most famous for its signature "Devil's Triangle," comprising holes 13, 14, and 15. The 13th is a dogleg-left par-4 playing to a narrow green perched above a rocky cove. The 14th, a par-3, sits approximately 200 feet above the Atlantic Ocean on a cliff-top location with sweeping views of the British Virgin Islands. The 15th, a 564-yard par-5, features a pond in front of the green. The course offers scenic Caribbean vistas throughout, with elevation changes ranging from 80 to 200 feet above sea level and exposure to steady trade winds that add to the playing challenge.
The course was ranked as the U.S. Virgin Islands' number-one golf course by Golf Digest in 2022 and historically hosted prestigious tournaments and visited by notable dignitaries. The facility included a pro shop, driving range, and fine dining at The Grille restaurant. The course ceased operations in 2018 following Hurricane damage and currently awaits redevelopment.
