Lilongwe Golf Course

Course Information

Address:
Lilongwe
Malawi

Lilongwe Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of Lilongwe Old Town in Malawi, set within 73 hectares of land that includes well-tended gardens. The facility is home to an 18-hole championship golf course, which is the only one of its kind in the country. The course is rated as a par 72 layout, although the club’s "About Us" section describes it as a par 71 PGA championship course. The grounds are framed by century-old trees, and the club maintains bent grass fairways and slick greens, which have been noted for their conditioning. The course presents a variety of challenges for golfers of all levels. A notable feature is the par 3, 5th hole, where a tee shot drops 80 meters to the green, offering a moment to catch one's breath. The round concludes with the 18th hole, a par 5 finishing hole that demands accuracy. This final hole features a large dam on the left, a wetland dividing the fairway, and an elevated green surrounded by deep bunkers. The club also provides a driving range and putting green for practice. Founded in 1930, the club was originally owned by the Baron Family, who converted the farmland into a sports complex. J.C. Abraham served as the first chairman, and the course has since evolved from its humble beginnings into a full 18-hole facility. The club hosts many Malawi Golf events and is recognized as a leading golf destination in the region. Facilities include a clubhouse, a pro shop stocking golf merchandise and hire equipment, and the Hazard Bar, where players can relax after a round.
