Located at 400 Country Club Terrace in Lawrence, Kansas, Lawrence Country Club is a private, member-owned facility featuring an 18-hole championship course. The layout is a par 70, stretching from 4,858 to 6,510 yards depending on the tee boxes. The course was completely redesigned and sculpted by Todd J. Clark, ASGCA, and reopened in September 2006. The renovation was significant enough to earn a nomination by Golf Digest as one of the top five renovated country club courses in the Midwest Region. The property is distinguished as one of only two country clubs in Kansas featuring bentgrass tee boxes, fairways, and greens. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills and tree-lined fairways, with five lakes integrated into the design. White sand bunkers guard many of the greens, and the course is noted for being walkable, with tees and greens situated in close proximity. The practice facility includes a range with GPS yardages, bunkers for long and short irons, a chipping green, and a putting green. The club offers a full-service golf shop and club fitting services. The course presents a variety of challenges, with slope ratings ranging from 125 to 140. The front nine features a mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, including a downhill short par-5 on the third hole that offers a prime birdie opportunity despite an awkward tee shot through a tree-lined fairway. The seventh hole, a 208-yard par 3, is described as one of the hardest in the state, bordered by out of bounds to the left and water to the right. The back nine includes a demanding 441-yard par 4 on the fourth hole, which demands two excellent shots to reach the putting surface and features a green that slopes heavily from back to front. Signature holes include the seventeenth and eighteenth, which provide a challenging finish. The seventeenth is a 169-yard par 3 that requires a precise iron shot, with the front hole location offering a birdie opportunity as balls feed to that area. The eighteenth is a 405-yard par 4 that requires players to fit their tee shot into the narrowest fairway on the course, with out of bounds to the right and water on the left. An accurate approach is required to avoid a difficult up-and-down. The club hosted the Women’s Big 12 Golf Championship in 2012.
