Koninklijke Haagsche Golf & Country Club is the oldest golf club in the Netherlands, founded in 1893. Located in Wassenaar, the club moved to its current 18-hole course in 1947 after losing its original location in The Hague following World War II.
The course was designed by the renowned architecture firm Colt, Alison & Morrison Ltd and was laid out in 1938 within the distinctive Meijendel dune landscape. The course seamlessly integrates with the rolling dunes, maintaining the natural topography throughout. Each hole presents unique vistas and distinct challenges, with the design preserving the sensitive natural environment of the area.
The course is considered one of the finest in continental Europe. The design philosophy respects the undulating dune terrain, creating a harmonious relationship between the playing corridors and surrounding landscape. Through sustainable maintenance practices that account for the fragile ecosystem, the course is maintained in excellent condition. The layout consistently provides varied strategic challenges across all eighteen holes, leveraging the natural contours and dune formations to define playability and aesthetic character.
