Located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Komwood Golf Club is a 7,102-yard, par-72 course designed by Kazumi Miura and opened in April 1993. The 18-hole layout is set within a 1.34 million square meter area that preserves mature trees and natural forest scenery. The course features Pennington and Bentgrass greens and is accessible via the Koka Toyama Interchange on the Shin-Meihan Expressway. The front nine presents a mix of long par-5s and strategic par-4s. The opening hole is a straight par-5 that plays 528 yards from the full-back tees, while the 9th hole serves as the course’s longest par-5 at 623 yards from the same tees. The 5th hole is a demanding par-4 that requires an elevated tee shot over a hill, with the green guarded by three bunkers. The 7th hole is a par-4 featuring a water hazard on the approach and is noted for two prominent pine trees lining the fairway. The back nine introduces significant elevation changes and water hazards. The 11th hole is a blind par-4 where the green is not visible from the tee, flanked by out-of-bounds areas on both sides. The 13th hole is a valley-crossing par-4 with two-tiered greens, while the 14th hole features a downhill tee shot that transitions into an uphill approach to another two-tiered green. The 16th hole is a par-3 that requires a shot over water, with out-of-bounds boundaries on either side of the two-tiered green. The closing holes test precision and nerve. The 17th is a long par-5 that offers a choice of tees, with the sub-tee requiring a carry over a valley. The 18th hole is a par-4 where the clubhouse is visible directly behind the green; the approach shot must carry a water hazard, with out-of-bounds lining the left and right sides of the landing area. The course is known for its wide fairways and generous landing zones, though the out-of-bounds and water hazards demand accuracy on key holes.
