Keowee Key Golf Course was designed by George Cobb and opened in 1973. The course was later renovated by Rich Mandell in 2006 and 2018. The 18-hole course features 6,426 yards with a par of 72. It is a private course located in Salem, South Carolina. The course is situated near Lake Keowee in the Blue Ridge Mountains region.
The course layout is mountain-style with lots of elevation changes and tight fairways, featuring very few flat lies and numerous uphill shots to elevated greens. Five tee boxes are available to accommodate varying skill levels. A unique feature is the placement of landing areas in fairways that allow most golfers similar distances into greens regardless of tee box selection. Par 3s all play downhill, while the majority of other holes are uphill or have elevated greens.
The 18-hole, par 72 course is nearing certification in the Audubon Sanctuary Program, which promotes environmental stewardship. With its demanding topography, the course is a distinct and fair challenge to golfers of all skill levels.
