Johnson City Country Club, established in 1913, is East Tennessee's premier private country club. The 18-hole course features 6,402 yards of golf for a par of 72. Designed by A.W. Tillinghast, the golf course opened in 1913. The 18-hole layout offers rolling terrain, mature trees, and Blue Ridge Mountain views.
A premium is put on the tee ball and approach shots to small undulating greens. The course has bermuda tees and fairways, and bent grass greens which were redesigned in 1986. Johnson City Country Club is the only original A.W. Tillinghast design that still exists in Tennessee. Nine holes were built initially and the new JCCC opened for play in 1919. The other holes were added later—three more holes in the late 1940s with the final six coming in the 1950s courtesy of Tennessee architect Lon Mills.
The course has very undulating greens and rolling topography. It has been left to its original design and hasn't been renovated or updated through the years. It is very walkable, with a routing that leads back to the clubhouse five times.
