The Westin Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona features 27 holes comprising three nine-hole layouts: Ironwood, Acacia, and Mesquite. Designed by Scott Miller and opened in 1996, these three nines can be combined in various configurations to create three different 18-hole combinations. The course stretches over 6,900 yards from the championship tees across distinct desert-style layouts.
Located in the heart of Scottsdale near the McDowell Mountain range, the course is characterized by dramatic elevation changes of up to 80 feet and rolling terrain with picturesque views of Camelback, Mummy, Pinnacle Peak, and McDowell Mountains. The layout features over 300 bunkers, scenic lakes, dry desert washes, and native desert vegetation including mesquite and ironwood trees.
The course presents a moderate to challenging difficulty with the Ironwood nine offering a more player-friendly, links-style layout, while the Acacia nine features the signature holes with extensive mounding and bunker strategically placed along fairways. The closing par-5 hole on Acacia is considered the signature hole, featuring water along the left fairway and five bunkers surrounding the green. The course hosted the USGA's 1997 Women's State Team Championship and is certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
