Iona Golf Course is located on the small island of Iona in the Inner Hebrides off Scotland's west coast, accessible by ferry from the Isle of Mull. The 18-hole course measures 4,673 yards and plays to a par of 66, with no holes exceeding 378 yards. Originally laid out as a nine-hole course in 1886 by Allan MacBeth, it was extended to 18 holes in 1905 by William McNeile Dixon.
The course is maintained naturally by grazing cattle and sheep on the machair, resulting in a minimalist layout with no defined fairways, aprons, or rough. The outward nine plays to par 32 (2,308 yards) with five par fours and four par threes, while the inward nine plays to par 34 (2,265 yards) with seven par fours and two par threes. Notable features include the 3rd hole, a dramatic 168-yard uphill par three with a natural sand bunker below the green, and the 14th, an uphill 273-yard par four. The course is renowned as one of the world's best short courses, celebrated for its authentic, raw golf character and stunning coastal setting.
