Horton Golf Club is a nine-green, eighteen-hole artisan golf course located at Henfield Business Park in West Sussex, England. Founded in 1974 on the Shoreham Cement Works estate, the club relocated to its current site in 1991 after the original land was sold. The course was developed entirely by its members, who designed the hole layouts, constructed the greens and tees, excavated ponds for water management, and planted trees throughout the grounds.
This short but demanding course is characterized by its unique member-maintained operation, a defining feature since its inception. With over 120 members, the club operates on artisan principles where members collectively manage course upkeep and club affairs rather than employing professional staff. The setting features open fields with water hazards and mature trees, creating an attractive landscape.
The course is known for its strong social atmosphere, with regular Sunday morning competitions and post-round refreshments fostering community among members. The club maintains the foundational philosophy of members playing together and supporting one another, while still emphasizing competitive play. The nine greens and eighteen tees configuration allows for varied routing and repeated use of greens with different approach angles.
