Iceland
Located in Mosfellsbær, just a short drive northeast of Reykjavík, Hlíðavöllur is an 18-hole championship golf course situated at the edge of the Kollafjörður bay. The layout plays down and along the coastline, offering expansive views of the water with the majestic Esja mountain serving as a backdrop. On clear days, the snow-capped glacier of Snæfellsjökull is visible across the water, providing a dramatic setting for the round. The course is characterized by relatively ample fairways and large greens, designed to ensure a pleasurable experience for golfers. While the routing is accessible, the difficulty increases with the terrain; jagged rocks from ancient lava flows wait in the rough to challenge expert players. The course also features a unique natural element, with colonies of Arctic Terns nesting by the shores of the 12th through 14th holes during the summer, alongside other resident birdlife such as Eurasian oystercatchers and European golden plovers. Hlíðavöllur has established itself as a significant venue in Icelandic golf, hosting the Eimskip Tour annually as part of the national golf tour. Notably, the course was the host of the 2020 Icelandic National Stroke Play Championship, attracting the country's best players. The facility is part of the Mosfellsbær Golf Club, which also operates the 9-hole Bakkakot course in the nearby hills, but Hlíðavöllur remains the primary championship layout.
