Located right on the Border between England and Scotland, Hirsel Golf Club is a splendid example of a traditional parkland course of outstanding natural beauty with the Cheviot Hills in panoramic view. The course measures 6,024 yards with par 70 for men (72 for ladies). The course features 18 very different holes strategically designed to make the most of the undulations of the terrain and the natural hazards presented by a large number of majestic, mature trees and the winding River Leet. Offering a challenge to the accomplished golfer, it is also forgiving to those with higher handicaps.
Founded in 1948, it is a course of strategic design with a fair margin for error; the fairways are generous, as are the greens, but getting from one to the other calls for more precision than power. There are a few blind tee shots and blind approaches to contend with around the course, adding interest to the round. The 3rd hole, a 243-yarder called "Bell", takes a fair old blow from the tee to get close as the hole plays uphill and the green is entirely blind. The next two short holes – "Kingfisher" and "Spa Well" – are the 7th and 10th which are both protected by water to the front of the green.
