Heron Point Golf Links ☆ Follow

Designed by Canadian architect Thomas McBroom, Heron Point Golf Links is situated around the rolling landscape of Lake Dunmark near Ancaster, Ontario. Although one of McBroom’s earliest works, the course is regarded as one of his finest, fusing three distinct golfing themes into a seamless layout. The design incorporates elements of Carolina lowlands golf through rolling meadowlands and wetlands, Canadian parkland golf via dense stands of trees, and links-style golf characterized by fescue-covered mounds and turbulent terrain. The course presents a challenging test for golfers, featuring well-protected greens with run-offs, ramps, and significant contour. The layout demands precision, with a number of forced carries over the lake or environmentally sensitive areas. The round builds in momentum, culminating in a dramatic finish. The 18th hole serves as the climax of the round, requiring a carry of 220 yards from the back tees. Heron Point has a notable tournament history, having hosted the 1997 Canadian Masters, which was won by Mike Weir before he moved on to the PGA Tour. The facility includes full practice amenities with five target greens and a 22,000-square-foot clubhouse that overlooks the lake, providing a venue for events and tournaments.
