The Golf des Sables d'Or, also known as the Golf de Fréhel, is an 18-hole links course located in Fréhel, Brittany, France. Situated near the Cap Fréhel headland, the course has been in operation since 1925 and plays to a par of 71. The layout is characterized by its coastal setting, offering links-style golf in close proximity to the sea. The course management has implemented a significant shift in maintenance practices, having ceased the use of synthetic phytosanitary products since 2022. This transition involves mechanical aeration, verticutting, and the use of biological soil treatments to maintain fairway quality without chemical herbicides. Roughs are maintained at a height of 70mm to support local biodiversity, while greens have undergone a flora inversion to introduce more resistant grass varieties that require less water. Green speeds are managed between 2 and 2.5 meters, varying with the seasons to preserve the grass during germination, winter, and drought periods. The course utilizes water reserves from specific holes to maintain greens during restrictions on water extraction. The facility is certified by the French Golf Federation and partners with the Regional Natural Park of the Rance Valley – Côte d'Emeraude to ensure ecological compliance and sustainable course management.
