Golf de Morfontaine is a prestigious private golf course founded in 1913 by Armand de Gramont, Duc de Guiche. Designed by renowned Scottish architect Tom Simpson, the course features two layouts: an 18-hole championship course inaugurated in 1927 and a 9-hole course called Vallière from 1913.
The Grand Parcours exemplifies Simpson's philosophy of blending sporting challenge with aesthetic landscape design, utilizing natural terrain features including forests of pines, heather moorland, and moss-covered rocks. The course was modernized between 2005-2016 by architect Kyle Phillips, who updated six holes while preserving Simpson's original design vision and character.
Morfontaine consistently ranks among the world's finest courses, placing 7th in Golf Digest's 2020 Top 100 Courses Outside the US and 41st in Golf Magazine's global top 100. The course regularly hosts prestigious international competitions including the French Women's Internationals and European Mid-Amateur Championships. Its exceptional design and setting have established it as a venue of singular sporting and aesthetic distinction among European golf courses.
