Located in La Chevillotte, the Golf de Besançon is an 18-hole course set within a 200-hectare forest. Designed by architect Michael Fenn, the layout measures 6,016 meters from the tees and plays to a par of 72. The course is defined by its integration into the natural landscape, featuring a terrain that alternates between dense woodlands, valleys, and undulating ground. The design prioritizes strategy over power, requiring players to navigate narrow forested fairways, pronounced doglegs, and significant elevation changes. The difficulty is largely dictated by the putting surfaces, which are described as small, frequently elevated, or plateau-style, and are well-defended by bunkers. This setup demands precise approach shots and careful course management rather than reliance on distance. The front nine offers a progressive introduction to the course's technical demands, featuring tight drives and strategic Par 3s. The back nine presents a more physically demanding challenge, characterized by stretched Par 5s, blind shots, water hazards, and ravines. The final holes require sustained concentration as players approach the clubhouse, with the course rewarding patience and intelligent shot placement throughout.
