Golf Club Marigola ☆ Follow

Located in Lerici on the Ligurian coast, the Golf Club Marigola is a nine-hole course set on terraced slopes overlooking the Gulf of Poets. The layout was designed in 1978 by architects Franco Marmori and Bellò, following the acquisition of the property by the Migliorini family who sought to promote the sport in the area. The course is characterized by its compact nature, with fairways and English-style greens that demand precision and tactical decision-making over raw distance. The terrain is defined by significant elevation changes and narrow landing zones that require careful club selection. The opening hole, known as "La Porta del Campo," features a raised tee and a narrow fairway protected by bunkers and out-of-bounds, immediately testing a player's accuracy. Subsequent holes navigate through olive groves and past the historic Castle of Lerici, with greens that are often small, protected by sand traps, or elevated. The course includes a mix of par 3s and par 4s, with a total par of 28 for the nine holes. Water hazards and out-of-bounds areas are strategically placed throughout the round, including a lake that appears early in the round and water running along the side of certain holes. The difficulty is heightened by the steep slopes and micro-undulations on the putting surfaces, which require a delicate touch. The course was officially affiliated with the Italian Golf Federation in 1987 and has recently achieved homologation under the World Handicap System, ensuring its ratings meet international standards.
