Golf Club Grand Ducal is an 18-hole course located in Luxembourg, set within a 52-hectare parkland landscape featuring mature, sometimes century-old trees. The layout was designed by Major J.C. Symonds, who drew inspiration from the work of Major Tom Simpson, resulting in a classic design typical of the 1930s. The course is characterized by tree-lined fairways that prioritize straight shots and require constant concentration, with a general par of 72. The front nine presents a mix of challenges, starting with the 1st hole, a par 4 that demands careful club selection to avoid bunkers on either side. The 5th hole is widely regarded as the most difficult on the course, featuring a narrow landing area and a second shot that requires players to choose between playing short of a bunker or navigating over trees protecting the green. The 6th hole is a demanding par 4 that requires a drive of at least 230 meters to reach the dogleg, with a central fairway bunker complicating the approach to an elevated green. The back nine continues the test with several strategic par 4s and 5s. The 11th hole is a long par 5 with out-of-bounds to the right and a fairway bunker at 150 meters from the green. The 15th hole is the longest par 5, featuring a sloping fairway that draws balls toward left-side bunkers, while the 18th hole offers a concluding par 5 that can be reached in two shots but is guarded by bunkers and a sloping fairway. The course includes three par 3 holes, with the 4th hole noted as the most difficult of the trio, requiring precision to avoid bunkers short and to the left of the green. The club was established in 1934, with construction beginning in 1935 and the club house opening in May 1936. The course suffered damage during World War II, particularly on the back nine which was used as a maneuvering ground for Allied forces, but was fully rehabilitated by 1948. The Golf Club Grand Ducal has been the seat of the European Golf Association (AEG) since 1937.
