Golf Sant Joan is an 18-hole, par 72 course located in Rubí, between Sant Cugat del Vallès and Barcelona in Catalonia. Designed by renowned golfer Severiano Ballesteros and opened in 1994, it was the first public golf course in Catalonia. The course was initially developed with a 9-hole practice layout, with the full 18-hole championship course completed in 2004. The course spans approximately 6,046 yards and is managed by the Spanish Golf Federation and Catalan Golf Federation.
The layout is notably challenging due to the terrain's natural topography, featuring densely wooded sections with significant elevation changes throughout. The first nine holes are particularly demanding, while the second nine transitions to flatter ground. The course is characterized by tight fairways, unforgiving rough, and numerous ravines rather than water hazards. Wide fairways provide some playability across skill levels, though strategic precision is required. Views of surrounding mountains, including Montserrat, are visible from several holes.
Since 2007, the course has undergone substantial improvements including enhanced access roads, buggy paths, water treatment systems, and general amenities to increase accessibility for amateur players. As a public facility open to all licensed golfers, the course remains an important venue for golf development in the Barcelona region and serves the regional and national golf federations' promotional objectives.
