Gochang Country Club is a 21-hole facility located in Gochang-gun, North Jeolla Province, South Korea, situated near the West Sea coast. The course was designed by Kentaro Sato and constructed by Daedong Construction, opening in June 2006. The property spans 230,000 pyeong and features an 18-hole, Par 72 main layout alongside a 3-hole, Par 12 short course. The facility is divided into three distinct playing surfaces: the Beach Course, the Blue Course, and the Sky Course. The Beach Course is the signature 9-hole layout, characterized by its proximity to the ocean and the use of natural seawater hazards. The front nine features wide fairways and strategic water elements, including a significant water hazard on the 5th hole that must be carried for the second shot. The 3rd hole presents a S-shaped water hazard and a bridge, while the 4th hole is a par 3 that plays over water to a green guarded by bunkers. The back nine continues this coastal theme, with the 6th and 8th holes offering long par 4s that require precise approach shots to greens protected by water or out-of-bounds. The course utilizes dual tee boxes and green configurations on many holes to adjust the difficulty and yardage. The Blue Course comprises the back nine of the main 18-hole loop, offering a contrasting challenge to the Beach Course front nine. This section includes long par 4s and par 5s, such as the 4th hole which stretches nearly 570 meters from the blue tees. The layout demands accurate driving and careful management of the course's natural contours. The Sky Course serves as a 3-hole short course, providing a separate, shorter challenge for players or for practice, with yardages varying significantly by tee box. The course is known for its integration of the natural coastal environment, utilizing sea breezes and views of the West Sea as key elements of the playing experience. The design incorporates native pine forests and natural water features that define the strategic requirements of each hole. The facility is accessible via the Seohae Expressway, with exits at Seonunsan and Gochang providing direct routes to the club in Simwon-myeon.
