Founded in 1896 as Illinois' third golf club, Exmoor is a private, full-service country club, located in Highland Park, Illinois, 28 miles north of Chicago. With a championship golf course designed by Donald J. Ross, Exmoor continues to fulfill its original mission — as a family club devoted to the game of golf, while offering a growing range of sports and social opportunities. The course has 18 holes with a length of 6,864 yards and a slope of 135. In 1915 the club retained Donald Ross to undertake a "major revision" with the first three holes finished late in 1915, and the balance completed over roughly four more years at a reported cost of $35,000–$40,000, concluding circa 1919. This old traditional course has extremely fast and severely-sloped greens.

Exmoor Country Club was a founding member of the Western Golf Association in 1899. Host of 18 national and professional tournaments since 1903, Exmoor is notable for its tournament history. Exmoor was the home club for three members who won the U.S. Amateur: Chandler Egan (1904 & 1905); Chick Evans (1916 & 1920); and Davidson Herron (1919). The Western Golf Association has twice brought the Western Amateur to Exmoor in the modern era (2012, 2022). In recent years, Exmoor has hosted top-level events—including the PGA TOUR Champions' 2018 Senior Players Championship and the Western Amateur in 2012 and 2022.
