Elwood Golf Links dates back to 1924 with its original nine holes. The course was designed by William H. Diddel and Ronald L. Kern, with the back nine opening in 2017. The 18-hole course features 6,641 yards from the longest tees for a par of 71. The front nine retains its original push-up greens from the William Diddel design with a traditional municipal layout featuring mostly straight holes across relatively flat terrain.
Holes #1 and #9 are dogleg lefts with bunkers in the front right of their greens, while holes #2-8 are straight holes with limited trouble following the back-and-forth municipal tradition. The back nine presents a stark contrast in difficulty compared to the front nine. The course has received recognition from Golf Advisor, including Top 25 Friendliest Courses in the U.S., Top 25 Value Courses in the U.S. in 2022, and Top Courses in Indiana and Top 25 Courses for Pace of Play in the U.S. in 2023.
The course is municipally owned and publicly accessible. The original nine holes re-opened on June 22, 2019, restoring the course to a full 18-hole facility.
