Ellis Golf Course

Ellis Golf Course is a historic 18-hole municipal course in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, originally designed by William Langford. The front nine opened in 1919, with the back nine added in 1948-49, making it one of the state's oldest and most challenging courses. The layout features generous fairways paired with challenging greens that demand the use of every club.

The front nine showcases holes with large elevated greens, while the back nine is fully wooded with tight, undulating holes offering scenic beauty. The course is carved through an urban forest landscape nearing 100 years old, providing breathtaking views. Wildlife commonly seen includes white-tailed deer, fox, heron, and occasional eagles.

Course ratings range from 66.3/114 (Gold Men's) to 71.9/126 (Red/Women's), accommodating golfers of varying skill levels. Recent renovations completed in 2003 added continuous cart paths throughout the back nine, improving walkability. The course is recognized as the "Crown Jewel" of Cedar Rapids municipal golf courses, combining historical charm with contemporary design elements to appeal to all golfers.
